A Proven Writing Program That Will Last the WHOLE YEAR

An Open Letter to Homeschool Parents:
Make Writing Fun and Effective For You and Your Child

Dear Homeschool Parent,

Hoffmann Family

Repeat after me, "Writing is enjoyable to teach, writing is enjoyable to teach..."

Learning to become a writer is a process much like learning to play the piano or learning to draw. The more you practice different strategies, the better you become at the overall task. Practicing a little everyday is better than only practicing once a month. Write More provides many different ways to practice writing a little everyday.

The Write More products will teach different writing strategies that kids need to learn to become better writers. Writing is a process. There are organizational and mechanical things kids need to learn in order to freely write.

Write More teaches writing through direct writing prompts, individual journal prompts, hands-on writing games and daily use of the Write More Portfolio. Write More wants to help you teach your children to become independent writers.

As you teach writing, here are a few key points to remember:

  1. Teach your child to think through and organize his ideas before writing. Take the time to briefly write story ideas on an organizer to develop the beginning, middle and end.
  2. 3 Different Programs for Homeschooling
  3. Do not correct everything your child writes. Allow your child to experiment with different writing styles and different vocabulary without worry of it being critiqued. Build upon your child’s writing successes rather than look for errors.
  4. Help your child discover his writing style. Think of your child’s writing as a piece of modeling clay. Allow your child to mold it and bend it, then help your child know when to pinch it here and there.
  5. Make your classroom an inviting place to write. Provide a variety of paper, pens and pencils to make writing interesting. Hang posters of worn-out words, transition words and vivid verbs on the walls to encourage precise and varied word choice.
  6. Write with your child. Nothing will teach your child that you value writing more than you writing alongside your child. Let your child see you struggle to write a character description or rewrite a particular sentence. Share your stories with your child.

Most importantly, have fun teaching writing with your child!

Sincerely,

Alma Hoffmann, Developer and Founder of Write More
